Seven years into his career as a chemical engineer in biotech, Anthony confessed to his wife, Maddie, that he wanted to do something that had more of an impact on the world.  

“I guess literally trying to cure cancer wasn’t good enough,” Maddie sighs as she recounts the story.  Regardless, Anthony seemed to have God’s ear, and in 2025 he boarded a plane to Tulsa, Oklahoma to train in butchery under the guidance of Brandon Sheard.  It was the first of many steps that eventually led to the genesis of Village Herd.

From the very beginning, Village Herd has been about - well, the Village.

“I wanted to foster that sense of community and place,” says Anthony. “You can see the families who raise your meat, talk to them, and maybe even visit them. They’re within a two-hour drive!”

Anthony also passionately champions the small-scale homesteader.  He explains, “Homesteading is a lifestyle that makes for a stable, robust society. We believe more people should do it, and we want to facilitate that!  We make sure these homesteading families get paid a fair price for their premium quality food. We see to it that when they provide for our community, our community provides for them.”
